Always, always double track guitars

ok, not always, but, for the effort it takes, the pay off is a wonderful place to find yourself.

ok, but what is double tracking?
Basically, it’s just layering two or more recordings of the same song/part/riff/et c..

pros:

cons:
Must have good timing and musicianship, or hire someone who does.
If done poorly, it’ll sound like noise or a delay effect.

What about live? How to recreate that double tracked quality?
